The active ingredient botulinum toxin has a very relaxing and positive effect on our facial features. In aesthetic therapy, it is a convincing active ingredient in non-surgical wrinkle treatment: for example, in the correction of wrinkles on the forehead, frown lines, wrinkles around the eyes or corners of the mouth. The exact mechanism of action of botulinum toxin is complex. In simple terms, it can be summarized as follows: the toxin botulinum inhibits the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and thus ensures long-lasting relaxation or paralysis of the treated facial muscle. This effect can also be toxic, especially if the respiratory muscles are affected. However, there is no need to fear any toxic effects at the doses used in aesthetic treatments. In fact, in the hands of experienced dermatologists, botulinum toxin is a drug with an extremely low risk of side effects. Even with years of regular use, no long-term effects are to be expected.

Botulinum toxin is also used in medicine to treat dystonia (persistent muscle cramps), chronic migraines or excessive sweating.
